History

Founded in August 1995 by Jolt1r and Meelobee, Zd started out as a graffiti crew and music band located in the city of Lelystad, the Netherlands. When Internet slowly became available everywhere, we started playing online games and ended at Unreal Tournament.

The name Zandbank Draken by the way, was taken from a street name (which was just "Zandbank"), where Jolt1r and Meelobee were living back then. "Draken" means "Dragons" - so we were the Dragons of Zandbank, or in short: the Zandbank Draken.

First Unreal Tournament related activities as Zd started even before December 2000.

In early January 2001, we joined the Proving Grounds Unreal Tournament Domination ladder. As Proving Grounds was a North American league, European players, which most of Zd were, had to face high ping during matches played on North American servers.

Around beginning of November 2001, we, that is, most likely Jolt1r and Meelobee again, along with a few more of us, heard about ClanBase, an European league, and created Zd there. We remained an Unreal Tournament Domination only clan, but added the InstaGib Domination section later on. We participated on different ladders and joined almost every Domination cup on ClanBase.

During 2004, Domination was played less and less, and as the community was very small anyway, we decided to move forward. As a result, we joined the Unreal Tournament 2004 2on2 TDM and 2on2 iCTF ladder at the end of October 2004.

Interest in 2on2 iCTF vanished nearly completely, so we left the ladder again by early August 2005. We then played almost only 2on2 TDM, even though more and more members joined us. By November 2006, we finally decided to give 4on4 TDM a try, and joined the UT2004 TDM OpenCup Fall 2006 on ClanBase. We ended up being ranked third in the fourth division, earning the very first award ever for Zd! Since then, we were playing 4on4 TDM regularly on the ladder as well.

Towards the end of 2007, activity decreased and with the release of Unreal Tournament 3, some members moved on, while others decided to stop gaming altogether.
